One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to read more. I have… sort of been doing well on that one. I try to read at least a chapter of a book every night before I go to sleep, and doing that day after day really adds up! Here are a few of the books I’ve read so far this year!
Yes, Please– This was HILARIOUS. The language was a bit much at points, but overall I really enjoyed this one. Amy Poehler gave a lot of good life advice, told a lot of stories, and was just really really funny. I actually listened to this one as an audio book and I’m so glad that I did. Amy narrates it herself, which means that she gets all the inflections just right, she gives extra little tidbits that aren’t in the actual book, and she has some of her friends read snippets, too!
One Plus One– This was a really quick read, and it was pretty ok. It’s your typical chick-lit, which means that it’s not really a thinker, it was very predictable, but it was a fun and mindless read that only took about 2 days to finish. The characters were pretty fun and I got pretty wrapped-up in certain parts of the story!
Gone Girl– This one was INTENSE. Holy moly was it intense. And I had even seen the movie before I read it (I know, I know, I broke my rule. Oops.) I’m sure everyone knows the plot by now, but the book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put it down. Not because I loved it, necessarily, but because it was so intense that I just wanted to get to the end!
The Light Between Oceans– I actually really liked this book a lot. It started out pretty slowly. Like, really slow. But I stuck with it, and I’m glad I did. It made me think a lot, and think about morals and life and choices and love and right and wrong and I still kind of don’t really know how I feel about the way the plot turned out. They’re making this one into a movie so I’m glad that I read it first!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone– This was a re-read for me. I want to read the entire series this year so the beginning was a good place to start! It had been quite a while since I read this one. I started reading Harry Potter in high school while sitting at the ice skating rink waiting for my high school boyfriend’s hockey games to start, and that was about 9 years ago. There was a lot that I had forgotten and I can’t wait to get through the rest of the series again!
