My First Time at the State Fair of Texas

It finally happened, y’all. I am officially a Texan now. I went to my very first State Fair of Texas and it was AMAZING! I went with a really fun group and I think that made my visit so great. The fair was fun, but having fun people to walk and talk with made it really enjoyable. I feel like we didn’t actually do too much while there (we went right after work so it was already 5:30 by the time we arrived) but here are the highlights!

Big Tex greeted us once we got inside! This guy was HUGE (the name didn’t lie!) and I didn’t realize that his head moved and he talked. (I should have realized this though since the original Big Tex burned in an electrical fire a few years ago. Yikes!)

There were SO MANY delicious foods and drinks to try- I had a corny dog, I tried a funnel cake ale (don’t be fooled by the delicious name, it just tasted like regular beer with powdered sugar on the rim. The powdered sugar was the best part.), and a delicious funnel cake! Pretty classic fair food if you ask me!

We really just walked around a lot, which was still a lot of fun. One of the things I really wanted to do was ride on the big ferris wheel…. until I saw the line. Holy moly was it ever long! I mean, hundreds of people. There was no way we were going to wait in that line. So we went around the corner and found a little area with cornhole and played that for a while and I took a picture of the ferris wheel instead.

We went around and looked at a bunch of different trucks (one of the guys is in the market for a new one) and that’s really all we had time for before leaving at 9:30. We didn’t get to see any of the animals, but that’s probably ok. I’ve seen animals before and I’m sure I’ll see some more at some point in time.

I’m SO glad I got to go to the fair!!! The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and now I feel like I’m really a part of Texas. I can’t wait to go back again next year!

  1. Glad you made it out 🙂 Everyone living in the area should go at least once. I grew up here and in my short 25 years of life I have yet to go on the ferris wheel! The line is always so long and it costs a lot of coupons to go on it. It’s a sight to see when it’s all lit up though. 🙂
