Let me take you back to many moons ago and talk about my very favorite Valentine’s Day! (Spoiler alert: there is absolutely no romance involved in this story!) I’ve actually only been on one date on Valentine’s Day, and that was back in 2005. And now I feel very old. And very single. Moving on.
My favorite V-Day happened during my freshman year of college, so imagine little Kelly back in 2007. I was younger. I was skinnier. I was PISSED. I was in a fight with my current boyfriend at the time- actually we might have been temporarily broken up- and I did not want to talk to him at all. In fact, if I remember correctly, I told him not to try and contact me on Valentine’s Day because I would end up saying some things I might regret and probably using some words that weren’t normally in my vocabulary. All the drama.
I had some pretty great friends that lived on the same floor as me in the residence hall, and they were all single and looking for something fun to do on Valentine’s Day, too. We decided that we needed to have the ultimate girls night- get dressed up, go out for dinner, and just enjoy each other’s company. So we………… got dressed up in our favorite sweatpants and hoodies and had dinner at McDonald’s!
I guess you could maybe call it an Anti-Valentine dinner, but we sure did have fun! I remember that there was a guy (a cutie, if I recall) eating there by himself and we were debating if we should invite him to sit with us. But then we didn’t, because that would actually be a very weird thing to do.
And that’s all we did- that I can remember anyway! In reality, we all probably went back to our dorm and then a few of us probably watched some episodes or 24 (we were OBSESSED with that show freshman year!)
While that day was pretty fun, I think that THIS Valentine’s Day will be my best ever- I can’t wait to go down to Houston and spend time with my TWO nephews! We are going to cuddle and color and go to the park and probably do some puzzles and it will be lots of fun!
