Texts from Jane Eyre (2016 Book Bingo Review)

Ok so I kind of cheated on this cateory… I wanted something to take the spot of a book a friend told you about, but the one I originally wanted to read that was actually recommended by a real life friend was not available at my library, and I didn’t want to buy it… so instead I picked a book recommended by someone I’ve never met in real life. Texts from Jane Eyre by Mallory Ortberg was recommended by one of the Gilmore Guys, and since I spend so much time listening to them, I feel like they’re my virtual friends. Kind of. It’s legit, don’t worry about it.

This really quick read was hilarious and awesome. The basic premise is- imagine your favorite literary characters had unlimited texting. Just imagine all the great conversations they would have! From Amazon… “Everyone knows that if Scarlett O’Hara had an unlimited text-and-data plan, she’d constantly try to tempt Ashley away from Melanie with suggestive messages. If Mr. Rochester could text Jane Eyre, his ardent missives would obviously be in all-caps. And Daisy Buchanan would not only text while driving, she’d text you to pick her up after she totaled her car.”

This book would be great to tote along and read on the airplane- you’d probably be able to finish it by the time you landed. It’s guaranteed to make you chuckle a few times, and it might even introduce you to some new characters and stories you want to read in the future! (Just wait till you get to the Sherlock texts- they’re great!!)
