An Apartment Tour (Finally!)

Hey there! I don’t know if you heard the news, but I’m moving!!! I’m staying in Dallas, and actually I’m staying in my same neighborhood, but I’m moving to a new apartment. It’s one street away from where I currently live, so at least I know the neighborhood already! I really lucked out when I chose this area when I first moved to Dallas, but my current apartment complex just kept raising my rent and honestly, I didn’t feel like my tiny apartment was worth the higher price tag.

So I put in my notice to vacate, and I started looking for a new place. I will go into this saga more later, but I ended up finally finding a great place in my same hood! And the best part is that it’s a 1 bedroom townhouse, so I WON’T HAVE ANY UPSTAIRS NEIGHBORS ANYMORE! HOLLER!!!!!!! I’m about to throat punch the person that lives above me and wakes me up at midnight and 5am every. single. night.

Before I moved, I wanted to take some pictures of my apartment. I’m not really sure why, but I felt like I needed proof of “hey, here’s what my first Texas apartment looked like!” And also it’s kind of fun to show it off to family and friends who didn’t get to see it in person. I’ll go around room by room! My apartment is pretty teeny tiny, so it won’t take long. 🙂

Living Room

Oops – forgot to turn off my TV there… I was listening to the CD I bought at the Dashboard Confessional concert last weekend (This Wild Life – look them up!) My favorite thing about my living room: my gallery wall! I just love the way it turned out! My least favorite thing about the living room: the fireplace. Yes, having a mantle was kind of fun, but honestly it just ate up and entire corner and I could have used that space for more seating. Oh well.

One reason my apartment was so cheap when I first moved in was that it is clearly not upgraded. A lot of the apartments in my complex have stainless steel appliances, dark wood cabinets, nice hardwood flooring, and mine… is very much original. That upgrade/fancy stuff also adds about $200/mo onto the rent, so I was happy to have the old stuff. My favorite thing about the kitchen: it has pretty good storage! My least favorite thing about the kitchen: the microwave is SO OLD and only has something like 600 watts.

Dining Room

My little Ikea table just fits perfectly in this little space! I found a random spot to put my leaning shelf, and you know what, it looks good enough there. Hopefully I can find a better place for it in my new apartment. My favorite part of the dining room: the print that says “there’s always time for tea and cake” which was an awesome gift from my friend Jen! Me least favorite thing: the little stacked washer/dryer in the closet there. It’s been awesome to have those IN my apartment, but they seriously only hold like 1/3 of a normal load, so laundry takes forever.

Bedroom

My bedroom is just the perfect size for my stuff! It actually worked out perfectly that my desk fit SO WELL into the little nook that I didn’t even know was there until I showed up to move in! I had no idea where I was going to put my desk, so you can imagine how happy I was when my desk slid right in the space. My favorite thing about the bedroom: the ladder over my bed! Such a great flea market find and looks awesome with a few coats of paint! Least favorite thing: while my stuff fits well, it JUST fits and there isn’t too much room to walk around.

Bathroom

My bathroom has been pretty great, and I actually have quite a few favorite things about it. I love that my tub is HUGE and tall and is perfect for taking bubble baths. I love that it has a ton of storage. And I love that I have my light switch framed, because it just makes me really happy. My least favorite thing about the bathroom: THE SHOWER IS THE CREAKIEST THING KNOWN TO MAN. Seriously, any time you take a shower, it sounds like the dang thing is going to crack in half and you’ll fall through. And fun fact, when any of my neighbors shower, I can hear their loud, creaky tubs as well and it’s not annoying at all……………………….

So there’s my apartment, or at least my apartment for the next 2 weeks! Now that I’ve taken some nice pictures, it’s time to take everything down off the walls and pack everything up. It should be an easy move, since I’m only going 1 street over, but still… I have to pack everything up and I need to get started!!! I’m going to be out of town the next 2 weekends, so I’m not sure when I’ll get it all done, but it’ll get done.

I’m off to Tulsa for the weekend to spend some time with my parents – hope y’all have lots of fun things planned!!
