If I had ALL the Time in the World…

…I would just make things NON-STOP! See, I have a little bit of a problem when it comes to being crafty… I’m a bit of a jack of all trades, but definitely a master of NONE. There are so many things that I love doing or want to learn to do so I can love doing it, but there just isn’t enough time to do all of it!!! (Which is kind of sad because I am currently single with no boyfriend and no children and no pets and minimal responsibilities so if not now, when?!?!)

But anyway, enough about me not knowing where my time goes. Back to the MAKING! I have so many fun things in my Pinterest boards that I’m dying to make, and I hope to do someday! So many projects that I know how to do but could use more practice. Do I just pick ONE thing and get really good at it? Does that seem like less fun? Who knows. I’m just rambling now. So here are some of the fun projects that I wish I could do if I had all the time in the world!

2018 finish embroidery piece

Look at those flowers!! As someone who not dramatically at all says UGH more often than I should (ok maybe a little dramatic…) this would be a lovely project.

This bicycle pattern is precious and I can think of a few people who I could make it for.

LOOK AT THIS LLAMA I NEED TO MAKE THIS IMMEDIATELY!

– Baking –

I’ve yet to really master making the perfect pie crust, but this funfetti pie crust really makes me want to make pies all. the. time.

I’ve really started enjoying to make macarons but I need more practice to get my technique juuuuuuuuuuuust right. These s’mores ones would be a fun recipe to try while I’m working on it!

One of the big goals in my life is to make stunningly smooth cakes like this one and I just need to practice more. And have lots of occasions where sub-par cakes will be acceptable. Watch out, bible study ladies, you might be getting a lot of cake in your future!

– Lettering –

I have the sudden urge to write on all of my clutches and little purses now…

Bounce lettering is so fun and so cute and I need to do some more practice so I can use it to write ALL THE THINGS!

10 things I love about Tombow Dual Brush Pens

I have some Tombow pens and I LOVE them but (can you sense a theme here?) I need more practice! There’s so much you can do with them!

– Sewing –

I remember my mom making me and my sister so many customized scrunchies – I’d love to give it a try!

I’ve made a quilt before but I had my mom help SO MUCH during the process – I’d love to try again and make one for real this time.

I would love to beef up my sewing skills and make a cute skirt like this one!

– Crocheting –

I’d love to learn this bobble stitch for the edges of baby blankets I make!

I’m actually working on a blanket using this pattern RIGHT NOW!!! I just need to, you know, finish it.

These crochet cacti are so adorable – I do have some random green yarn I could use!

– General DIY –

I have no need to make my own giant rug, but also I REALLY want to make my own giant rug!

I’ve always wanted to make one of these string art crafts but I have not planned it out… so it might stay on the list for a while.

I’ve been learning more about Illustrator at work (thanks, Lynda.com!) and I am excited to start making projects of my own on my own personal time!

I think this post is just me daydreaming about all the fun things I want to make, but it’s also some motivation to see all the fun projects again and pick one and JUST GET STARTED!!! Which one do you think I should go with first? The ambitious side of me says make a rug, the practical side of me wants to start with the hand embroidery project, and the delicious side of me wants to make all the macarons!

My Favorite Crochet Stitch

I had this grey blanket. It’s basically my favorite thing in the entire world. It’s so soft and squishy and warm and it was the very first crochet project I made all by myself, so it meant a lot to me. It was also horribly lopsided, but hey, it was my first project! But it shed little dark grey fuzzies ALL OVER THE PLACE. It was terrible and annoying and so I made the decision on not take it into my new apartment. I had it for almost 10 years, it was time to let it go.

But I used that blanket LITERALLY EVERY DAY so I now that I have left myself sad and cold and blanket-less, I started making a brand new blanket for myself. The original one was pretty simple and just used a double crochet stitch. And it was fine. But I wanted to step up my game and so I found a new stitch to try. I went with the No-Space Double Crochet V-Stitch and y’all. IT IS THE BEST STITCH EVER!! It’s so easy (you ONLY use the double crochet stitch) but it looks so great and a bit fancier- you have to try it!!!

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Crochet a foundation chain that is a multiple of 6.
  2. 2 double crochet (dc) in 4th chain from hook. (This is the V-stitch).
  3. Skip 1, 2 dc in next chain (ch).
  4. Repeat step 3 until there are two chains left.
  5. Skip 1, then dc in last ch. This completes your first row of V-stitches bordered by 1 dc on either end of the row.
  6. Turn the work and ch 3 for you first dc of the new row.
  7. Skip 2, 2 dc in the space between the two dc that make the V from the row below.
  8. Repeat step 7 across the V-stitches of the row below.
  9. Skip 1, dc in last ch.
  10. Repeat steps 6 – 9 until the project is the length you desire. Finish off and weave in ends.

Pretty easy, right?!? Right! I just love it – there’s plenty of room to squish your fingers in there but it’s solid enough to keep you warm. I liked this stitch so much, that I chose to use it for a baby blanket that I’m making for my future niece or nephew!

I’m also in love with the colors for this baby blanket. I might want to keep it for myself. But I won’t. But I’ll be tempted. We’ll see what happens… 🙂

Treat Yo Self.

Clothes. Fragrances. Massages. Mimosas. Fine leather goods. These are the makings of a great Treat Yo Self day, according to Tom and Donna. (And I mean, they’re totally right.)

But seriously, this is one of the best phrases and scenes in the entire series of Parks and Recreation. (Haven’t watched this show yet? Go do it!! But just push through the first season- it isn’t as good or as funny, but once season 2 starts, that’s where it really starts to get good!)

When I was thinking of what I wanted to do for my next hand embroidery project, the phrase “Treat Yo Self” immediately came to mind. So off to Hobby Lobby I went, I got my supplies, and I started stitching!

I decided to put this on a tea towel that I could hang on my oven, and I LOVE the finished product!

It isn’t very practical for like, drying dishes, but it sure looks pretty hanging in my kitchen! (Please excuse the world’s worst lighting that is exclusively found in my apartment.)

I already have TONS of ideas for what I want to stitch up next… have you done anything fun and crafty lately? Tell me about it!

I Can Do Hand Embroidery Now!

Remember at the beginning of the month when I shared that my goal for June was to learn a new creative outlet? Well… I DID IT! I learned how to do (the basics of) hand embroidery and I even finished a little project!

craft

How cute is that?!?! I know- adorable! For my first attempt, I’m pretty proud of it! It’s a little guy – 5 inches across – but it is displayed proudly on the shelf in my dining room.

This was my first time using a class and kit from Brit + Co, and I seriously can’t recommend it enough! They send you all the materials you need for your selected project, and the video class was easy to follow and actually helpful! I didn’t have to google anything or search out additional tutorials on YouTube – I call that a win!

I was pretty sure that I would enjoy this new craft, and you know what? I really did. I had a lot of fun doing this. It was relaxing, but I still had to concentrate and pay attention to what I was doing, and I really think that I’ll do some more of these! Now that I know the basics of hand embroidery, I think I’m going to try and make another one before the month is over (using my own design maybe?) We’ll see how it works out!

Have you ever tried a Brit + Co class? Are you a hand embroidery pro? Let me know and we can be creative together!

June Goals – Creativity

June is here and that is CRAY CRAY! I changed the calendar on my desk and I just paid my rent (bye bye money), so it must be true. I’m always happy when June rolls around, though. It finally starts to feel like summer and I usually have some fun plans to look forward to which makes me feel excited pretty much all the time! This summer I have a few trips planned, a few friends I’ll get to see here in Dallas, and some fun activities already in the works!

Since it’s a new month, it’s time for a new goal! I’m already a big fan of this one – creativity.

June Resolution

I like to think that I’m a mildly creative person, but I want to try and grow that a little bit more by choosing a NEW outlet to work on. Have I chosen it yet? Uhh………. no……… not exactly……… I’m thinking about it though, and hopefully I’ll decide by…. THE END OF THIS POST! (No pressure, right?!?)

Have you heard of Brit+Co? Well they are one of my favorite sites to browse around on- everything they do is adorable AND they offer online classes in different creative avenues! I think I might pick one of those and roll with it… most of them seem to be geared toward beginners and some of them even come with kits you can order so you can follow along using the same tools as the instructor! You should check out their classes for yourself!

Ok… I think I’ve decided. There were quite a few (9. There were NINE) classes that I wanted to take, but for the month of June I’ve decided to do… drumroll please… EMBROIDERY ONLINE CLASS!!! This is something I’ve been wanting to learn for a while (I tried teaching myself a while ago, but then I moved to Texas and kind of forgot about it…) and I’m really excited! I’ll do the class and maybe do another post about my finished product! I can’t wait to get started!

You should join me this month and find a way to be creative, too! You don’t have to pick a new project to try, you can return to an old favorite if you’d like. Do you have a project you started and just haven’t managed to finish? Use your creativity this month and get it done!! Now let’s go and be creative!
